Amyloidosis is a rare disease that often goes undiagnosed until it is too late. We are raising funds for diagnosis and treatment of this killer disease. I was diagnosed, ten years ago, at the National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC) which part of the Royal Free Hospital in London. This is the only specialist centre for amyloidosis in the UK. I have an annual checkup at the NAC. In 2010 75 % of people died within three months of diagnosis.
I have received all my treatment at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. Under advice from the NAC I required specialist drugs and the Christie was my nearest hospital that could give me them. The collaboration between the Christie and the NAC has been brilliant.
Any funds we raise will be split between the NAC and the Christie.
